TCM Yin Yang Heaty and Cool Food

Heaty and Cooling food in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medition) is important and will make or break your health!  This is a quick list of which is heaty and cooling.

TCM Heaty Food

Heaty food will give use Yang energy when eaten. This kind of food cause us to feel… well, heaty! Having too much heaty food will create these problems:

  • Short temper
  • Rashes
  • Mouth ulcers
  • Feelings of irritability
  • Flushed face or pinkish cheeks
  • Dark yellow urine
  • Fever
  • Nose bleed
  • Constipation
  • Need more water
  • Sore throat
  • pimples and acne
  • Indigestion

Heaty foods, in most cases, can be identified using these traits:

  • hard, dry, spicy
  • grow under the sun
  • tastes sweet or pungent
  • has lots of sodium
  • have lots of fats
  • red or orange in color (not all)
  • very concentrated mass and nutritious (think beans and nuts)

TCM Cooling Food

On the other hand, cool or Yin food will create a cooling effect when consumed. They can counter the Yang food”s effects but too much will cause:

  • tired
  • weak
  • lazy
  • Need less water and always need to pee
  • restless

Normally, cool foods are:

  • salty, sour or bitter
  • lean
  • soft and wet
  • grow in little sunshine
  • contains lots of potassium
  • blue or green or light colored (not all)
  • very light (think orange: full of water/juices)
