Sodium and Fat Loss

Most people think that calories and fat are the most important factors in fat loss. This maybe true but there is another very important factor - sodium.

Sodium and Fat Loss

Sodium is a mineral found in lots of food. It is also part of salt : Sodium Chloride. What does sodium got to do with fat loss, you maybe wondering. Well, if you are someone who has been exercising hard, and eating healthy foods, but are still having trouble getting rid of some stubborn flabby skin around the waist, and you are thinking that how come, since you are doing everything right... then you maybe missing another important factor, which is sodium.

Sometimes, the weight and fat that is retained in the body is not really the extra calories at all. It is extra water. Why does the body retain extra water? Not because it wants to. It is because of electrolite imbalances in the cells. Especially the fat cells. When the body has not enough water, or too much sodium, or too much water or too little sodium, this will cause an imbalance and in the end, water may be stored in the fat cells, causing the flabby look and the weight increase.

The secret is to make sure sodium and water in your body are balanced. I have created a flash application that can help calculate the sodium and water intake that a person needs. However, it is not 100% accurate and it is still in beta mode. It has been working well so far, but it will still need some testing...
