WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011 Review

WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011 comes with some nice features but is it good enough? Is it better than the previous titles in the series?

Smackdown vs Raw 2011 looks awesome. It is out for the PSP, PS2, PS3, XBOX360 and WII. It has certain cool features such as the WWE Universe, a big bad roster, match creator... All those are cool, especially the WWE Universe mode. I do not really like the gimmick WWE Universe but then again, in the game, it plays like WWF Smackdown 2's season mode, so yes it is awesomer than the Miz.

But would I be digging into this game... eh... no. For me the series ended in 2009. The best would be Smackdown vs Raw 2007 and 2008. For me it's all about the gameplay feel. Sure, 2011 might have awesome moves realism and all but for a viewer watching people playing the game, that maybe good thing. But for a player, animation realism isn't much compared to match realism. Starting with 2010, the matches have gone down the ditch. One match can last aroun 20 minutes and the wrestlers just punch the hell out of each other until one wrestler detects that the other is down and out, and so he goes for the pin. 1-2-3. That's it. No near falls. In Svr 2010, it is extremely hard to get near falls. It is like you either get a 1 count or a 3 count. In 2011 though, there are near falls, which is good, but the AI opponents just won't make the cover if he detects that you can still kick out. After a big move, your opponent will just pick you up and continue beating you up... or just stomp away. No near falls. No pin attempt. 2007 and 2008 still had that. 2009 was OK too, just that THQ or Yukes messed up the stomping. Most stomps missed even though the opponent is right in front of you, but still it was more enjoyable than 2010 or 2011's dumb AI. Near falls and 2.9 counts are one of the top things that make matches enjoyable. Any wrestling fan would know that.

Every year, I would be creating custom wrestlers to play. At least for a month or two but that stopped in 2010. Sorry THQ. I am not buying the game again this year. The best wrestling game ever so far is still Fire Pro Wrestling Returns of PS2. So should you buy Smackdown vs Raw 2011? If you don't mind the drag and you just want to control your favorite WWE superstar like Orton, Cena, Sheamus, Triple H or Mark Henry or Luke Gallows or whatever, and you just want to beat the hell out of opponents, sure. Go for it. If you want to experience the real fun of pro-wrestling by playing the game, then stay away from this.
