Josh Tam Body-Building Journal

I recently changed my goals. Instead of being slim and lean, I have decided to change my main fitness goal to bulking up and building muscles. But that would be a long road ahead.

Josh Tam Body-Building Journal

Since the beginning of 2008, I have been sticking to a diet and exercise routine that has successfully given me very visible ab muscles and a slim figure. However, that diet is very restricting. Although I got my ab muscles, I got them at the expense of a lot of things:

1. I had to restrict eating, meaning I had to feel hungry throughout the day.
2. My energy level went lower and lower.
3. My muscle tone decreased.

All this is largely owed to a certain book about health secrets written by a certain Ayurvedic `expert`. The book stated that the human body did not need much protein and we could get protein right from the Nitrogen from the air we breathe in. Yea, because of that I got a severe protein deficiency once and got a bit of kwarshiorkor. Let me explain. I started eating lots of bananas. About 20 bananas a day. So I had to reduce rice and other foods. And to think of it, the only protein I got for the whole day was an egg during lunch. And maybe some legumes. But the food for the day consisted of all healthy foods like vegetables, grains, rice and fruits. Not much protein? No. I was getting it from the air, remember? But no, I did not get shit from the air I breathed in. The book could had no evidence. But I am living evidence that we can never get protein from air nitrogen. I remained thin and my stomach got more and more distended. Search Google Images on kwarshiorkor to see what I mean. And don`t tell me the kwarshiorkor kids who were lack of protein did not breathe in any air.

Anyways, I am saying goodbye to that lifestyle. I am bulking up and gaining healthy weight. But first of, I would need to have to eat a lot to gain strength. My muscles are now completely depleted, as of the time I am writing this paragraph. So, without muscles, my body would not be needing more calories for its basal metabolism. Therefore, eating a lot will cause some expected fat to build up around my belly. And then when I muscles get built, I will get more body mass which will need more calories. By then, my body will not retain calories that I eat as they will be used up by my muscles. And then I will start burning the flabs to get my ab muscles back! Oh yea.

I am a thin guy and hard-gainer, so to speak. So this objective is a long shot. But I am going for it. I have made up my mind. I will also be posting weekly updates here.
