Drinking a lot of water can be lethal, but drinking enough water is crucial for health and fitness. But how much water is enough? A lot!

Drinking More Water

You see, drinking a lot of water a day in a short period of time can be lethal and may lead to a condition called water intoxication. However, we still need to drink enough water a day and that is a lot of water.

Our body needs 8-10 glasses of water to function properly everyday. However, that is just to function properly. So drinking 8-10 glasses usually still ain't enough. Other factors may also jump into the boat to make us need to increase water intake. These factors include:
- Hot weather
- Consumption of high-protein food
- Consumption of alcohol
- Consumption of stimulants and water absorbers such as sodas and coffee
- Heavy sweating due to exercise
- Consumption of salty food

Therefore, we may need around 10-13 glasses of water a day depending on the factors above and more. Our thirst and urine can be an indicator of whether we are drinking enough water. But in this day and age, with our food sources highly processed and tampered with using synthetic and chemical substances, our thirst and urine are not good indicators anymore as they can be disrupted by some of the not-so-organic food we consume and therefore it would be safer to drink more water than usual. Chances are, when we feel thirsty, we are already dehydrated.

However, we should never gulp in lots and lots of water before and after food so as to not disrupt our stomach's digestive functions. Half a glass of warm water would be fine. Let's gulp in water an hour or more after we eat...

And do not forget that not all liquids we drink count as water intake. :-]
